Weeklong engagement at the Village Vanguard, NYC
Javon Jackson (saxophone) Jeremy Manasia (piano) David Williams (bass) McClenty Hunter (drums)
Javon Jackson is a tenor saxophonist equally at home in the hard bop of Art Blakey or the soul-jazz of Les McCann. He is a magnetic performer who has been featured by a long list of jazz royalty over the years including Freddie Hubbard, Cedar Walton, Ron Carter, and Charlie Haden. Downbeat says, “There’s no disputing his improvisational agility or his abilities to deliver magnetic melodies and emotional heft.” Jackson leads a quartet featuring one of the greatest jazz drummers of all time, Louis Hayes. Hayes his reputation in the 1950’s and 60’s through extended stints with Horace Silver, Cannonball Adderley, and Oscar Peterson and his impeccable swing and infectious feel sometimes make it seem like he invented jazz drumming.
