One night only at Kuumbwa Jazz Center, Santa Cruz
Featuring soulful and funky grooves, Wolff-Clark Expedition features pianist Michael Wolff and drummer Mike Clark at the helm. Both having received their start in the Bay Area in the 1970s, they’ve gone on to become preeminent musicians in contemporary jazz. Each has logged collaborations with musical legends: Wolff with Cannonball Adderley, Nancy Wilson and Sonny Rollins; Clark with The Headhunters, Wayne Shorter and Eddie Henderson. The Wolff-Clark features Buster Williams on bass and Hailey Niswanger on saxophone. Together, the Wolff-Clarke Expedition combines their affinities for improvisational jazz originals and standards along with deep-pocket funk.
Aside from his work with Adderley, Wilson and Rollins, Wolff’s impressive list of collaborators also includes Flora Purim and Jean-Luc Ponty. One of his most notable musical endeavors was his role as Music Director of The Arsenio Hall Show, where he performed with artists from across the full spectrum of musical genres; from Yo-Yo Ma to Grandmaster Flash.
Having risen on the scene as a member of Hancock’s Headhunters, Clark graduated to becoming a leader of that legendary band himself. Aside from his time in that famed ensemble, and his subsequent work with Shorter and Henderson, Clark has also logged collaborations with Christian McBride, Nicholas Payton and Lenny White, among others.
