Four nights at the Jazz Standard, NYC
A three–time Latin Jazz GRAMMY nominee, trombonist/composer Conrad Herwig made his first commercial and critical splash as a leader with his 1996 album The Latin Side of John Coltrane. The avid response to this recording led to more such projects including his sophisticated Latin–jazz treatments of the music of Miles Davis on Another Kind Of Blue (2004); a second Trane journey, Que Viva Coltrane with trumpeter Brian Lynch (2004); The Latin Side of Wayne Shorter, featuring Lynch and pianist Eddie Palmieri (2008); The Latin Side of Herbie Hancock, featuring Palmieri and trumpeter Randy Brecker (2010), and the 2014 release The Latin Side of Joe Henderson, featuring tenor sax great Joe Lovano. This week, Jazz Standard celebrates Conrad Herwig’s prodigious creative fusion with four different nights of repertoire, one each devoted to the music of Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Joe Henderson/Horace Silver, and Wayne Shorter/Herbie Hancock. Don’t miss it!
