One night only at Smalls Jazz Club, NYC
The Michael Feinberg Quintet welcomes NEA Jazz master and alumnus of Miles Davis and Elvin Jones’ bands, saxophonist Dave Liebman, and the virtuoso pianist Eric Lewis (also an alum of Jones’ and Wynton Marsalis) for a special concert on Thursday, December 6, 7:30-10 p.m. at Smalls Jazz Club, 183 West 10th St., New York City.
Feinberg continues to call to the bandstand previous members of Elvin Jones’ groups as well as Jones’ peers to reinterpret some of his classics as well as dig into Jones’ iconic discography as a sideman. Previous guests have included trumpeter Darren Barrett and drummer Billy Hart who was featured in the drum chair of Feinberg’s 2012 Sunnyside Records release “The Elvin Jones Project.”
Rounding out the quintet are 3x Juno award winner Ian Froman (drums) and DownBeat critics poll winner Noah Preminger (sax). Preminger and Froman can be heard alongside GRAMMY winning sax man Kebbi Williams (Tedeschi Trucks Band, Chris Dave Drumheadz) and the newest member of the iconic WDR big band, pianist Billy Test on Feinberg’s 2018 release “Whatever Possessed Me” about which Feinberg says has “everything (I) love about jazz. It’s eclectic yet specific, swinging yet searching, deep and rich, but all the while full of emotion, spirituality, and conversation between brothers…In a word: ENERGY.”
